Advanced Camtasia 8: Using Hotspots to Navigate Within Your Video Course

There are times when a regular Camtasia Table of Contents will work for navigating through a series of videos. There are other times when you will prefer to navigate within a video using the Hotspots method. When you are ready to try this, it will open your mind to some interesting ideas for learner control and engagement in your courses.

In this video Michelle shares an advanced technique of using Hotspots in Camtasia Studio 8 along with the Markers features to create navigation within the same video and then out to additional job aids, documentation or web pages.

Using Hotspots to help learners navigate your videos in Camtasia 8

Ever since Camtasia changed their quiz feature to stop allowing feedback I have also used hotspots in this same way to create self check quizzes with feedback inside a tutorial. Just remember, you may want to get some paper and pencil to plan all the hyperlinking prior to creating your video.  If you have any additional thoughts on this technique we’d love to hear from you below.

Does Camtasia Studio 8 hotspots work if the video is on YouTube or any other vid-host platform or ONLY if it is hosted on ScreenCast?

    Hi Moe,

CS Hotspots do NOT work on YouTube (or Vimeo, etc.) because they are a function of the Camtasia Player. YouTube uses it’s own video player and knows nothing about Camtasia functions.

Screencast.com does support them because it is owned by Techsmith and uses the Camtasia player.

Hope that helps and thank for the question!
