A Fake Mouse Pointer Saves the Day

I create a lot of software demos with Camtasia Studio and there are times when I make rookie mouse mistakes like:

1. Working on a video on two different computers.  Capturing one part of the video with my red mouse pointer and one with my white one. Ugh.

2. Using my laptop mouse instead of hooking up my wired mouse and getting those funky jerky mouse movements

3. Cutting out a piece of unneeded video which causes my mouse pointer to jump to a new part of the screen.

In the past when these things would happen, I use to either do the recording over or try to cut and splice it as best as I could.

Now I don’t worry about it as I just import in, then animate one of my spare “fake” mouse pointers to save the day.

Let me show you how this works…

Do you know of other video editors that have a similar animation tool and, if so, how does it compare to Camtasia’s animation?

Cool effect. Very clever. I would have never thought of that.

Have you seen Demobuilder? It has a built in mouse tracker that you can edit, you see the mouse trail as a line with points on the screen so you can drag it or edit it how you like to appear e.g nice and smooth and going to the right places.
