Typography Video Using PowToon

We’ve had some fun talking about the interesting way of delivering messages visually using what’s called kinetic typography.

See Michelle’s posts HERE: How To Make Kinetic Typography Effects In PowerPoint

While it’s very possible to create such video content using PowerPoint, it does take some advanced skills (not to mention patience and effort) to pull it off.

Well…I’ve found my new favorite tool for quickly and easily creating videos that can combine words in sync to narration. It’s called PowToon.

Here’s an experiment I did using a comedy snippet of audio set to visuals using PowToon:

What do you think?

While it did take me about 4 hours to work the whole thing out to completion, it was a fun project and I learned a lot about using the tool.

If you are interested in learning more about my PowToon methods, please leave a comment and let me know!

If there is enough interest I’ll put some training sessions together and we’ll explore it as another screencasting tool for the ‘ole toolbox…

Powtoon seems to be gaining momentum quickly with online video enthusiasts and professionals. I think some basic training and concept ideas would be a good idea.

Wow! I that was really great. And if it ONLY took you 4 hours, then I’m even more impressed. I wouldn’t mind listening to you open your mind to us on how you visualized this, what you were able to do easily, what you weren’t able to do, and what you did that wasn’t in your original plan.

Lon, Anyone,

Thanks for showing me this program. Really easy and creative.

To start, I used the free version, made a presentation, and was ready to post to YouTube, but was required to OK this message giving PowToon the authority to “View and manage your (youtube) videos and playlists, View and manage your YouTube activity.”

Is this normal? Should we be concerned about handing over this control to a relatively “new” company?

    Lon Naylor Reply

Hmmm…that’s interesting. I never ran into that because I purchased the annual plan. I guess I would see what I could find on the site regarding this policy and what that means exactly…

    I wouldn’t suspect anything overly nefarious but…

Great video Lon – and yes, I could see that the synching of the audio and visual could be tricky (I haven’t used this platform yet– but just guessing it would be!).
I would definitely be interested in learning more from you about this.
Many thanks
Tanya

Nice. I would add typography sync if I knew how to make it easier.

Lon you always amaze me! This looks almost close to doable for your average Camtasia rat.
But how can you do it faster than 4 hours for 1 minute of video? Or is that just the nature of the beast?

Teresa Osieczonek Reply

Neat! I can see this for several eLearning sessions I have coming up.

Chris Reply

Hi Lon, I would love to know more about your PowToon methods, I am a teacher and work with teacher and PD.

Thanks!!!

Right…I need to do that. I’ve been waiting for some of the improvements they have planned to come out so I don’t have to do it twice.
