Adventures in Greenscreen- the Saga Continues
I’m getting pretty excited about mastering this new “Remove a Color” feature in Camtasia 8.1 so the green screen saga continues in my quest to create a services video for my other site which is Screencast Video Services . I just want to do a video where I walk on from the side similar to the way the video below is done.

In a recent newsletter I mentioned that I had ordered some green muslin off Amazon so that I could experiment a bit with the chromakey (remove a color) feature, which is new in Camtasia 8.1. I’ve been doing screencast video for many years but I don’t have much experience with full motion camera video so I thought I would give it a try. I am using a script template I found on the BrainyVideo.com site (which is awesome BTW) and then I found his (Steve Washer’s) course on GreenScreen which I have just started to watch.
Last week I purchased a phone adapter so my Galaxy Note 2 (which is super big- if you’ve never seen one) could attach to my tripod. I think it gets much better picture quality than my webcam. Next, I ordered a stand to hold the green muslin fabric. Lon also suggested a lavalier mic (which I haven’t ordered yet but intend to). I need it because I’m going for a long shot and I’ll be too far away from phone mic to get decent sound.

I hadn’t gotten into the part in the Greenscreen course about lighting the green fabric so I didn’t have any lighting on it at all when I did my first test.
In this video (taken from one of our weekly coaching sessions)the students, and Lon Naylor, give me greenscreen lighting tips. Which is very kind of them because it is me that usually doles out all the advice when I lead one of those sessions.
It’s fun going through this process from scratch and seeing how I can create something completely different than I have ever done before. In my next post I’ll have the finished video with some more of my missteps thrown in so YOU don’t make them yourself.
Best,
Michelle Schoen
