Creating Custom Shapes in PowerPoint

So, I was bored the other day…

Scrolling through Facebook and saw a pretty funny political “meme” graphic. I wanted to test a couple of things:

1. Make a video version of a somewhat “controversial” image and see if it would get any Share / Views action on Facebook (it did).

2. See if I could replicate the image, using it as a guide and “tracing” out the shapes to re-create them in PowerPoint.

I recorded that creation process in PowerPoint with the Camtasia Recorder. And then, dropped that into Camtasia and did a bunch of snipping of the video to “speed up” the process visually. A speed painting kind of effect…

Here is the finished video:

As a result of that, I got several questions from folks and decided to cover the Custom Shapes tips & techniques on the Weekly Screencast Video Coaching Webinar. Here is a bit more detail on working with shapes, Points, and Curves:

Kind of a fun project. I learned a lot about shapes and how easy it is to create your own with just a little understanding and practice!

Enjoy!
