The Lazy Person’s Way to Maximize Your Video’s Reach: Part 2

Does it seem like you’re always creating new video content from scratch?

Creating new content for video courses and your YouTube channel should be high on your priority list. But here’s the thing – creating brand new video content and video products sucks resources away from your business. Whether you’re doing the content-creation yourself or you’re outsourcing the task, it takes time and money to do on an ongoing basis.

In last month’s blog post I talked about transcription as a way to add value to your video course. In option #2 I suggested that having your video transcribed would be a great way to re-purpose the content and get more mileage from it.

In today’s post we’ll talk about another way to repurpose your videos-creating excerpts.

Here is a great idea for recycling a video course which I have used numerous times.

Offer a Video Excerpt for Giveaway Events

Before we get into this I want to be sure you understand- you need to start creating a list of subscribers who are interested in your topic and what you have to say.  All of the following advice is to help you build that list so you can connect with more people who may want your courses and products.

So with that said, let me give you some ideas you can work on…

Start by cutting out an excerpt (a portion of your video product) and give it away for free to someone who is either doing a free giveaway or selling a huge package of products for a low price. All the people who have donated a product do so for free in exchange for the recipient’s email address. All partners promote the event, so everyone has a good chance of building a bigger list.

I did this in June for the BC Stack Giveaway event and gave one Module of our Camtasia 9 Workshop. Doing this can help build your (and the giveaway creator’s) mailing list while providing a huge number of people with a variety of either free or very low cost training.  It’s a win for everyone.

Sometimes these giveaway events are called a Fire Sale. This may be a fire sale that’s designed for the fire sale creator to profit from, or it could be a fire sale for charity. Either way, you can offer your video excerpt for inclusion in the package and still get new subscribers.

Offer a Video Excerpt for JV Partners or Affiliates

Just pull one lesson out of a full-size video course and create a giveaway for an opt-in page. Obviously, you have to make sure that the video can stand on it’s own or you may have to add a welcome or overview to it. Then, you have something to give to your joint venture partners or affiliates who are requesting freebies from you. If you’re not familiar with affiliate marketing then you need to know that the more freebies your affiliates can give away for you, the more people will be introduced to your products and services.

Another idea is to offer your video excerpt as a free bonus when someone buys your friends’ paid products or signs up for their site.

How about offering your video as a bonus inside a popular membership site for more exposure? Give the membership site owner a link to your product so they can add it below the video.

You can also allow your affiliates to give away or sell your video excerpt. (Be sure the video has their affiliate link inside or below it so that they get credit for any sales.) That way, they’ll earn a commission every time one of their customers or subscribers upgrades to the full version of the product.

For example, not long ago I gave away a portion of a video coaching replay to one of my JV Partners, Angela Wills, so she could offer it to her subscribers for free. When people opted in to watch it, I was able to get new subscribers interested in Camtasia and PowerPoint Videos and she was able to get sales from anyone who upgraded to the full course.

Can you see now how chopping up your video content can give you more content to help you get more subscribers,  JV opportunities and affiliate sales?

Repurposing and recycling your content should be something you do regularly. Recycling video make great business sense because you can turn it into even more money in the bank!
