Get Creative and Modify PLR Private Label Rights Video Content

One way to create video content is…NOT to create it, but rather to “acquire” it. Certainly, if you pay someone else to produce your video, that’s one way…

But you can also just buy the “rights” to use an existing videos also. This is called Private Label Rights (or PLR) content.

BUT, of course, there’s a catch. Most PLR videos content is LOUSY at best and down-right junk at worst. Does that mean it’s useless? NO!

What we recommend is that you take PLR video content and “make it your own” by modifying it, tweaking it, adding some creativity and expert touches. Hey, it sure beats start completely from scratch sometimes!

Here’s an example:

This is a PLR clip I got somewhere. I liked the overall message and I might even have just used it as is but…I started thinking about “What can I do to make this even better and MORE effective?”

Watch the ORIGINAL version here:

Not too bad! Probably made with Adobe After Effects or something like that. But it’s rather plain and generic…and the music un-professionally just quits at the end.

Here’s what I did to personalize it and extend the content. Watch my “Improved” version:

Pretty sneaky, eh?

I created a PowerPoint slide deck using the background of the video and embellished by adding some extra slides and copied the “typography” style of the original content. FYI: You cannot directly edit the existing text of a clip like this but open the PowerPoint file below to get an idea of how I added to it:

==> Download Lon’s PowerPoint file with modifications

1. I found a point in the video clip with JUST the wooden background (no text showing), and saved that out as an image. This became my PowerPoint background.

2. I then scrubbed through the video and found exact point with certain text on it, saved those out and added them as the slides in the file below that I modified text on.

3. Recorded the new slides, pulled everything into Camtasia Studio and timed everything up.

4. Changed the music to something a little more dramatic and made it end better.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments!

Well done! Having the time to learn these techniques.. well enough to actually apply them.. is a problem πŸ™‚ You make it look easy.. but when I start to dig in, well, let’s just say I’m turning to the instructions FAR too often. Learn Powerpoint. Learn Camtasia. Craft a script.. that it synchronized with the the slides, Editing the slides.. Oh, selecting music.. modulating the music.. inserting occasional sound effects..

Uh.. Yeah.. looks easy…Until you consider just how many steps are involved. If producing videos is not your “core” focus… at some point a person needs to decide what the best use of time and energy is! In my case, both are limited! πŸ™‚

Absolutely Bill! Should EVERYONE make videos? Nope. There is a reason a high quality, professional video production will run about $800 to $2,000 per minute of produced video.

Hi Lon – Great idea. I am just working on launching a new product and hadn’t thought about plr. Have you got any preferred plr sites?

    Hi Simon,

Ya know what? PLR video is just SO hard to find in any kind of quality. I usually only use it for the other components I can use like MAYBE a decent script I can modify and/or improve…perhaps audio narration that I can use and completely re-do the lame slides that come with it. Mostly it’s simply a possible alternative to staring at a blank screen when creating new content.

Hi Lon,

as so often you come up with something which makes sit up and think. I like this and will certainly be looking at ways of using this method myself in the future.

Ok, that’s about the coolest thing I’ve seen lately. And, also appreciate the link to PLRVideoDirect where some really nice tips can be found as well.

That said, the only thing I’d change since I’m a Mac owner is Keynote instead of PowerPoint and ScreenFlow instead of Camtasia! Sorry, couldn’t resist a good Mac plug.

Great article. I just purchased a lot of high quality plr ebooks and articles from a site called Favorish and I’m looking forward to creating some cool plr videos as well. Makes sense, but as one commenter pointed out, it is sometimes easier said than done. However, I think it is worth the time certainly.

How very cool, and definitely still appropriate for today. I have all this video and wasn’t sure what to do and love how you were able to take out of it what you needed. I know we’re supposed to rewrite the text PLR…Love how you “rewrote” and personalized the video. One friend put on a front and end of himself talking and that was neat. This feels more cohesive. Thanks!

Yep. There are lots of creative things we can do with marginal PLR video content. πŸ˜‰

This is a great article. But PLR though is good for the perceived author with no talent, focus and in most cases just plain old copy cats, PLR has contributed to a wealth of duplicate, compromising and certainly the projection of the viewer to think they are viewing content from a qualified source / the author. But we know this is not the case, but kudos to those that make the effort.

Yes PLR is well compromised by lack of quality and articles such as this I hope will help clean up this PLR mess we have. But love the article.

That’s a really creative way to edit a PLR video and make it your own – love it!

Although many people who buy video PLR are doing that because they don’t want to make videos themselves, so I just wanted to mention that it’s possible to buy good PLR video (yes, it does exist!) and add an intro and an outro to it to add your own branding and call to action. It won’t be as tailored as your example, but is faster/easier to do and can be outsourced to a freelancer easily if you don’t want to do it yourself.
